Abstract

Home-School Relationship which is the connection between the family and educational setting is especially important at the pre-school level where a smooth transition from the home to school is most significant and desirable. This paper discusses the feasibility of effective relationship between the home and the school in the context of Nigeria’s high adult illiteracy rate. Arguing that an effective home/school relationship may not be established with illiterate parents, the write-up recommended that as a cornerstone of the Early Childhood Care and Development Education programme, adult education must be actively promoted among parents. That government should re-organize the implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme to bring all the basic education components (ECCDE), Adult literacy, Nomadic Education, Primary and Junior Secondary Education) under one single structure and ensure equality in terms of government’s commitment to funding.
